After posting a video of herself stretching her fingers all the way back, a woman with a condition that makes her joints extra-stretchy has gone viral on YouTube. Taryn is though to be from US and in the video she shows off her tricks to the camera. She also explains that she lives with a condition called Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. In the video she can be seen bending her fingers right back over her knuckles, and then flatten them completely against her palm. Taryn also explains during the video that she feels no pain while showing off the tricks her joints can do.
Some YouTube users issued her with stark warnings while many were impressed with Taryn’s flexi*bility. One of the viewers wrote, ‘Even if it doesn’t hurt now, you are doing irreparable damage to your joints by doing these tricks. I know it’s fun to get the attention, I did this stuff a lot when I was younger too. I’m sorry to be such a downer, but I am 45 now and in pain ALL THE TIME.’ Another shared their concern by commenting, ‘Things fall out of my hands and my fingers bend all the way back even when I do not want them to…ligaments and tendons are like rubber bands…with Ehlers, yours and mine are more stretchy than most people… But like everyone else… they wear out like over-stretched rubber bands.’
The YouTube video has now been viewed more than 124,000 times since November 2. Ehlers-Danlos syndrome is a collection of inheritable disorders of connective tissue, according to the NHS. Different types of EDS have different features. But those with the condition may experience joint hyper mobility, stretchy skin and fragile skin tissue.
